Russia says seeking culprits in Dutch diplomat beating

Russia expressed regret on Wednesday over the beating of Dutch diplomat in his Moscow flat by unknown intruders and said it would seek out the culprits.
   
"Moscow voices regret over the unfortunate incident on Oct. 15, when the minister-counsellor of the embassy of the Netherlands in Moscow was beaten," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
   
The attack came one week after Russia complained that one of its envoys had been assaulted at his home in the Netherlands.
         
Russia's Investigative Committee said in a statement that it was investigating the incident, in which it said the Dutchman was tied up with tape.
     
Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans said in a post on his Facebook page that the diplomat was slightly injured in the assault on Tuesday night, and the Netherlands was asking for an explanation from the Russian authorities.
     
The diplomat's name was not released by either the Dutch Foreign Ministry or the Russian investigators.
