US secretary of state arrives in France for Arab League peace initiative

US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in France on Monday morning for a meeting with Arab League representatives.

He was met by US Ambassador to France Charles H. Rivkin at Le Bourget airport outside Paris.

Kerry will take part in the Arab League Peace Initiative Group Meeting and update members on peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

He will also meet Qatari Foreign Minister al-Atiyah and Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal.
Kerry will go to London on Tuesday for a meeting with ministers of 10 other nations who back the opposition in Syria.

The ministers will try to set up an international conference in Geneva to find a political resolution to Syria's civil war.

He also will meet with members of Syria's opposition.

Syria's main alliance of political opposition groups has said it will only negotiate if it is agreed from the start that Syrian President Bashar Assad will leave power at the end of a transition period.

After London, Kerry will travel to Rome to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
