France: Arab observer mission should start as soon as possible

French foreign ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said on Monday that France was informed of Syria’s ratification of the Arab plan, stressing that it is important for the observers to be able to carry out their mission as soon as possible.   

Valero added that, aside from sending Arab observers, the Arab League’s plan provides for the halt of repression, the release of all imprisoned protesters, the army’s return to barracks and allowing foreign media into Syria.    

Syria signed an Arab League initiative Monday that will allow Arab observers into the country, Syria's foreign minister said, as part of an effort to end the nation's increasingly bloody 9-month-old crisis.
