UN -Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria calls for exempting him from his duties

A UN spokesperson reported to Agence France Presse on Monday that the United Nations -Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria Mokhtar Lamani called for exempting him from his duties.

U.N. media and communications analyst Khaled Al Masri said "Lamani called for exempting him from his duties, but did not submit his resignation."

Masri did not reveal the reasons behind this step, and did not mention whether Lamani's request was approved.

Lamani assumed office in 2012 after the appointment of Lakhdar Brahimi as the Joint Special Representative for Syria.
