Police: Suicide attacker kills 7 in NW Pakistan
Pakistani officials say a suicide attacker has blown himself up near a police armored vehicle outside the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing seven people.

Senior police officer Mohammad Faisal says the attack took place on Friday, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Peshawar.

He says most of those killed were civilians but that there are police officers among the 45 wounded.

Faisal says police had recently stepped up patrolling in the area due to threats from militants from the nearby Khyber tribal region.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing. The main Taliban faction has announced a ceasefire while they are engaged in talks with the government.

The Pakistani army has carried out several operations in Khyber in an effort to rid the area of militants.
