UNASUR envoys return to encourage dialogue between Maduro and opposition groups

A commission of foreign ministers from across South America returned to the Venezuelan capital on Monday to encourage dialogue between President Nicolas Maduro and the opposition and bring an end to violent protests in the country.

The ministers from Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) met with both the president and opposition leaders in Caracas on Monday.

Speaking following their meeting at the presidential palace Maduro said that the government had accepted a proposal by the delegation to meet with representatives from the opposition on Tuesday.

Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, General Secretary for opposition MUD (Democratic Unity) group said it was ready to talk with the government to find solutions.

The opposition wants to establish an agenda containing four points to facilitate discussion based on an amnesty law for political prisoners, the establishment of the National Committee on the Independent Truth, commitment to the renewal of balanced public authorities and the disarmament of paramilitary groups known as "collectives".

Anti-government protesters continued to camp out in front of the United Nations building in the capital on Monday.

Demonstrators have called on the international organization to intervene in Venezuela, where violent protests have left at least 39 dead, hundreds injured and thousands arrested since February.
