Israeli army continue searching for three missing teenagers, raid media office

Israel sent more troops to the occupied West Bank on Saturday (June 21) and the military said it arrested 10 Palestinians, in a crackdown on the Islamist Hamas group, blamed for the abduction of three missing teens.

Over 1,150 sites in the West Bank have been searched and more than 330 Palestinians arrested, the Israeli military said, in its mission to weaken Hamas while in pursuit of the three teens who went missing near an Israeli settlement on June 13.

The raids have raised tension in the West Bank, touching off violent street confrontations in which two Palestinians have been killed. The crisis has also put a unity pact between Hamas and Western-backed President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah to the test.

On Saturday the military appeared to step up the search for the teens around the city of Hebron. A Reuters witness said hundreds of troops arrived in the area, which the army declared on Friday (June 20) a closed military zone.

In Ramallah, troops raided the offices of a production company that provides services for a number of media outlets, including Hamas's al-Quds channel.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said the soldiers found Hamas "electronic devices and magnetic media used for terrorism," but she gave no further details.

Israel has also struck out at welfare organizations it accuses of aiding Hamas, which opposes Israel's existence. Soldiers raided 30 such institutions on Thursday (June 19).

Israel accuses Hamas of abducting Gil-Ad Shaer and U.S.-Israeli national Naftali Fraenkel, both aged 16, and Eyal Yifrah, 19. Hamas, which advocates Israel's destruction, has neither claimed nor denied responsibility for the kidnappings.
