NATO shells Sirte as NTC moves to Tripoli

A senior official from the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) said that the rebels moved their executive committee, acting as the interim government, from the rebel stronghold of Benghazi to the capital city of Tripoli.

Deputy Head of the NTC executive office said that the head of the NTC Mustafa Abdul Jalil will arrive in Tripoli as soon as the security situation allows.

Libyan television said that NATO forces shelled the city of Sirte, hometown of embattled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, 360 Km from Tripoli.

On the international level, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a statement that the coming days will be critical for Libya, adding that Gaddafi’s end is near.

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said that the Italian oil and gas facilities in Libya were unharmed, adding that work will be resumed as soon as the situation stabilizes.
