At least 21 Presidential Guards killed in Damascus Reef explosion

Syria called on the U.N. Security council on Thursday to condemn the “terrorist incidents” that swept through the city of Aleppo on Wednesday, stressing its determination to hold the perpetrators accountable. This as the Al Nusra Front claimed responsibility for the coordinated suicide bombings that rocked the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, killing 48 people.        

While shelling and clashes continued in Aleppo’s neighborhood, at least 21 Presidential Guards were killed on Thursday as a result of open fire and an explosion in western Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Observatory added that shelling targeted regions in Homs, Idlib, Deir al-Zour and Hama.        

Meanwhile, SANA reported that the Syrian army continued chasing “terrorists” in the areas of Suleiman al Halabi and Bustan al Basha, destroying cars laden with machineguns in Aleppo. The army also chased gunmen in Deir al-Zour and dismantled two explosive devices in Hama Reef.           

On the Iranian detainees, an opposition website published a video stating the failure of the negotiations over the swap of Iranian detainees for Syrian prisoners due to the reluctance of both the Syrian and Iranian regimes, according to the statement that threatened to kill one Iranian prisoner for every martyr if shelling does not come to an end in two days.
