Jordanain King instructs release of arrested protesters

Jordan’s King Abdullah II instructed Prime Minister Abdullah Nsour with the necessary procedures for the release of arrested protesters.

Amnesty International had urged Jordan to release the activists who had been demonstrating for reform, adding that the directives of the king and head of the new government is to respect freedom of expression contrary to punitive measures taken against peaceful protesters.

Jordan has had nearly two years of peaceful street protests by Islamists, tribal figures and leftists, inspired by the Arab Spring uprisings, but they have focused on reforming government and limiting King Abdullah's powers rather than ousting him.
