Iran forces kill 180 Kurdish rebels in 2 months
Iran's Revolutionary Guard troops have killed at least 180 Kurdish rebels in two months of fighting near the Iraqi border.  

The Guard's acting commander, General Abdullah Araghi, says some 300 members of the outlawed Kurdish PEJAK group were also wounded in the operation, which began in August.  

General Araghi told state TV on Thursday that the operation forced the Kurdish rebels to abandon bases in Iran near the borders with Iraq and Turkey, and withdraw into Iraq's northern Kurdish region.  

PEJAK has been involved in sporadic clashes with Iranian forces in recent years.

The rebels say they are fighting for greater rights for their minority.   Iran accuses the United States Britain and Israel of seeking to incite tensions along its borders charges they deny.
