25 people killed in Saudi Arabia wedding fire

25 people were killed with 30 others injured. This was the casualty toll in the wake of a fire that gnawed through a wedding reception Tuesday evening in the region of Abqaiq, 60 KM southwest of Khobar in metropolitan Saudi Arabia.

The police have launched investigations while efforts are being exerted to identify the victims.

Preliminary reports suggest that the fire started when an electricity pole fell on the building and caused panic among the guests who attempted to escape.
According to Al Riyadh Saudi Daily, the fire broke out in a high voltage power transformer that fell on the building’s iron door, electrocuting those who touched it as they ran out.

In line with traditions in the Gulf, wedding celebrations in Saudi Arabia are segregated.
