Chinese-Russian veto obstruct UNSC resolution

The United Nations Security Council failed during its discussion session on Tuesday night to issue a resolution condemning the Syrian regime for its actions against the protestors when both Russia and China used their veto power.

Nine countries voted in favor of the resolution while Russia and China voted against it as South Africa, India, Brazil and Lebanon abstained from voting.  The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Suzanne Rice expressed her country’s dissatisfaction with the Security Council’s failure describing it as “defying morals and threating regional peace”.

“We strongly condemn the stances of the countries that preferred selling arms to the Syrian regime instead of ending the bloodshed”

The French ambassador to the United Nation Gerard Araud said that many consensuses have been made in order to pass a resolution without a Chinese-Russian veto but both countries were not responsive.  

On the other hand the Russian ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin said that all these resolution are being discussed in order to fight Syria without finding a clear solution and that his country will not vote on any of those resolutions.
