German intelligence participates in negotiations to free Shalit

The German intelligence services announced Friday that they participated in the negotiations leading to the release of the Israeli soldier Gilat Shalit in exchange for over a thousand Palestinian prisoners.

Ernst Uhrlau, President of the Intelligence service “BND” said that he assigned the Intelligence Agency with a support mission with the participation of agents who are “well-qualified and experienced in the Middle East”.

Refusing to provide further information, Uhrlau said that the release of Shalit will be a breakthrough for Germany and the German intelligence services.
