A suicide bomb blasts Afghanistan, 6 injuries reported

              
A suicide bomber attacked a bus carrying Afghan soldiers to work in the capital early on Wednesday, wounding at least seven people in an explosion that engulfed the undercarriage of the bus in flames, according to officials and eyewitnesses.                                           

The attack comes three days after a would-be car bomber was shot dead by police in downtown Kabul.                                              

That assailant was driving a vehicle packed with explosives and officials said he appeared to be targeting an intelligence agency office nearby.                            

Wednesday's attacker was on foot.                                     

He wore a black overcoat and carried an umbrella as he crossed the snowy street towards the bus, according to one witness who was waiting on the opposite side of the street to go to work.                                           

Colonel Zargul, Head of Kabul third district Criminal Investigation Department, said the number of injured people could be "around ten".                        

The Kabul police chief's office said in a statement that the early morning blast in western Kabul had wounded six soldiers and one civilian.                               

The Afghan government uses buses to ferry soldiers, police and office workers into the centre of the city for work every day.                                    

These vehicles, which run regular routes, have been a common target for insurgents.                                  

"A suicide attacker targeted the National Army bus. While the bus was picking up the ministry's staff members, the attacker detonated his explosives under the bus," Colonel Zargul explained.
