UN: Civilian death toll in Ukraine reaches highest level in a year

The United Nations Human Rights Office announced on Friday that the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine sharply increased last month to 174, reaching its highest level in nearly a year, amid escalating rocket and bomb attacks on populated areas around Kharkiv.

The casualties in May were 31% higher compared to April, marking the highest toll since June 2023, according to data from the UN mission monitoring human rights in Ukraine.
