Ennahda sweeps Tunisian election, early results show

Early results from the National Constituent Assembly elections in Tunisia showed on Wednesday that the Islamist party Ennahda has swept even its closest rival. According to these partial results, the Congress for the Republic Party, led by Moncef Marzouki also garnered a significant number of votes.

Independent High Authority for the Election said that “the day to reveal overseas voting results will be announced on Wednesday for the vote counting process is still underway.”

Even before final results are announced, consultations are ongoing between political forces to lay the groundwork for the second transitional phase that will follow the announcement of the election results.

Hundreds of Ennahda supporters rallied in the Tunisian capital on Tuesday night, chanting and cheering for their victory in elections, a victory confirmed by the early results.
