Lebanon president seeks international support as ceasefire proposal with Israel gains momentum

President Joseph Aoun said the proposal for a ceasefire with Israel and the start of direct negotiations is gaining positive momentum.

Aoun stressed that the only solution to Lebanon’s current situation is achieving a ceasefire with Israel, followed by direct negotiations between the two countries.

He added that he has held, and continues to hold, intensive international contacts on this issue, noting that the proposal has received broad international support and is beginning to show positive traction in global political circles.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Maronite League led by its president, Maroun Helou, Aoun reiterated his determination to prevent internal strife. He called for faith in the state and its legitimate institutions, emphasizing that there is no path to stability without them.

He criticized attempts by some to sow fear in Lebanese regions, while highlighting that Lebanese citizens are not prepared to return to internal conflict.

He also praised the security forces and the army for fully performing their duties to maintain security and stability despite difficult circumstances and limited resources, expressing full confidence in their ability to reassure the public.

Aoun underlined the state’s commitment to doing everything possible to support the resilience of residents in southern border towns and villages who have chosen to remain in their homes. He stressed that Lebanon maintains all channels of communication with friendly and allied countries to achieve this goal.
