Gaddafi family to file war crimes complaint against NATO

The family of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi decided to file a war crimes complaint against NATO with the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the alliance’s alleged involvement in Gaddafi’s death.

The 69-year-old former leader was captured and killed last Thursday near the city of Sirte in ambiguous circumstances. But it has been confirmed that a NATO aircraft fired on pro-Gaddafi vehicles driving in a convoy from the city.

Marcel Ceccaldi, a French attorney who previously worked for Gaddafi’s regime and who is now  representing his family, said that a complaint will be filed with the International Criminal Court in The Hague  because NATO’s attack on the convoy led directly to his death.

“Premeditated murder is defined as a war crime in virtue of Article 8 of the ICC’s Rome Statute.
