Iran hopes for a peaceful pilgrimage
Iran is hoping the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca will be “very calm” in the spirit of Muslims’s “unity” despite tensions with Saudi Arabia in the past months.    

Riyadh allowed 97,000 Iranians to go on a pilgrimage this year despite “the enemy’s campaign aiming at sowing discords between Muslims,” Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s representative at the pilgrimage, Hojatoleslam Ali Ghazi Asgar said.     

These statements come after U.S. allegations of an Iranian plot to kill a Saudi ambassador.
