Russia summons US envoy over spy recruitment accusations

Russia's Foreign Ministry summoned U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul on Tuesday after a U.S. embassy employee was detained on accusations of trying to recruit a Russian intelligence officer to work for the CIA.

A ministry spokeswoman said McFaul, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, had been called to the ministry but gave no further details.

Russia has detained an American citizen accused of trying to recruit a Russian intelligence officer to work for the CIA, Russia's RIA news agency said on Tuesday.

It said the man was an employee at the U.S. embassy in Moscow but also worked for the United States Central Intelligence Agency. The embassy declined immediate comment.
