Tunisian salafist group calls for demonstrations on Friday

Ansar al-Sharia salafist group announced on Tuesday that it will stage a protest in the city of Kairouan next Friday against the arrest of its spokesman Seifeddine Rais.

The Tunisian authorities which label the group as a terrorist organization, arrested Rais on Sunday in the city of Tunis where the group was set to hold a meeting on the same day.

The Ministry of Interior did not declare the reason behind the arrest of Rais.

The Tunisian government hardened its stances over Ansar-al-Sharia group after facing threats of being linked to al-Qaeda jihadist group.
