REPORT: Parliament fails to elect a president for the ninth time
House Speaker Nabih Berri adjourned on Wednesday the session aimed at electing a new president until the 12th of August.

On another note, Berri called on deputies to convene a session on the 26th of July to voice their solidarity with the people of Gaza and the Christians of Iraq's Mosul.

Early on Wednesday, Lebanese lawmakers headed to parliament to hold an election session chaired by Berri but failed to reach quorum.

Following the session, Lebanese Forces MP Setrida Geagea accused the March 8 alliance of hindering the presidential election, stressing that deputies who attended the session are the ones who truly represent the Lebanese people.

For his part LF MP Antoine Zahra said that the situation in Lebanon has become similar to that in other Middle Eastern countries, pointing out that “those who claim to represent the Christians are obstructing the election of a president.”

Lebanon has plunged into presidential vacuum following the end of former President Michel Sleiman's mandate on May 25.

Nine electoral sessions were held, but parliament has failed so far to elect a new head of state due to lack of quorum.
