Lebanese army clashes with al-Nusra Front fighters in Ras Baalbek

The state-run National News Agency reported that the Lebanese army clashed on Thursday dawn with al-Nusra Front fighters on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek in northeastern Lebanon.

The clashes took place on the western side of the Asal al-Wared area, the agency added.

Army troops targeted with heavy artillery the movement of jihadists on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal.

The fighters were targeted in Wadi Hmeid, Muheet al-Malahi and al-Rihwa, according to the agency.

The army frequently clashes with jihadists, whose threat rose in August last year when they overran Arsal and took with them hostages from the army and police following heavy clashes with troops.
