REPORT: Hadath witnesses heated electoral race

The southern suburb of Hadath witnessed since the very early morning hours a high voter turnout.

Two rival lists competed for control of the town’s municipal council, one backed by the Lebanese Forces and another backed by the Free Patriotic Movement.

Current Mayor George Aoun, who heads a list supported by the FPM, is running against Antoine Karam, who is backed by the Kataeb and LF.

After casting his vote, Change and Reform bloc MP Hekmat Dib said, “We exerted our best endeavors to reach consensus but family circumstances led to competition. We are voting for the development of Hadath."
