Don’t just talk the talk, walk the walk!
On Sunday April 26, Lebanese men will be making headlines.
In a first of its kind organized event, our men, who have long been under the impression that might is right, and that machoism and misogyny are healthy indicators of strength and virility, will shift the paradigm.
Armed with a pair of red, sexy heels, they’ll walk alongside their female counterparts at Beirut’s Waterfront City starting 10 a.m.
Why?
It is said that one can never really understand what it feels like to be at the other end of experience, which in this case means being a woman.
Well-meaning men often misread efforts and organized events that aim at promoting women’s rights in the face of increasing domestic violence, deeming them futile and without effect.
But this event is different since it aims to raise awareness and promote healing in a playful manner by breaking taboos and alleviating the social pressures that come with being a female in a gender-fixed region. Not a tough objective if you ask me.
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® Event is abundant with opportunities to get people talking. For preventive education, it helps men better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping improve gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence. For healing, it informs the community that services are available for recovery. It demonstrates that men are willing & able to be courageous partners with women in making the world a safer place.”
PUT YOURSELF IN HER SHOES™
Here’s a great opportunity for you guys to demonstrate your social awareness on issues facing women in Lebanon, the region and the world all the while supporting your partners, female friends, mothers and daughters.
It’s fun, provocative, thought changing, and easy!
Just call this number, 71-840253, and order your male heels with sizes ranging from 40-45 at the cost of 50,000 Lebanese Lira.
Yes, the figure may be above budget to some, but such is the case with first-time events and your support is much needed! And remember, all proceeds will go to KAFA in a bid to aid its mission in assisting victims of domestic violence.
Can’t afford it? No problem, your presence and participation counts! Please don’t let the 50,000 L.L figure deter you; a Donner Sang Compter blood drive will be present at the event where you can donate blood to needy patients.
Or alternatively, just show up and demonstrate your support by being there!
Because empathy and understanding ARE the new strong and sexy. Are you man enough?
