Basbous appointed head of the Internal Security Forces

Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Basbous received Thursday the position of acting General Director of the Internal Security Forces from Brig. Gen. Roger Salem who took power following the retirement of Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi.

In this context, Salem stressed that he will keep up with his work despite the "sectarian and political constraints," noting that “he handed over the mission to Basbous who proved that he is capable of assuming responsibility."

For his part, Basbous pointed out that his mission is very difficult given Lebanon’s current situation, adding that “he has the will and determination to perfectly implement his tasks in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces.”

He stressed that all the security leaders must coordinate with the LAF and prioritize public interest over any other consideration, calling on all ISF members to be disciplined and to competently implement their duties under the law and within the framework of human rights.

In turn, caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel urged the politicians to abstain from involving the security apparatuses in the political conflict.
