Bekaa residents suffer from absence of subsidized diesel oil

During wintertime, the suffering of the Bekaa residents grew larger amid the growing need of heating supplies. The citizens face the only choice of buying the green diesel oil for 31, 000 LBP since the subsidized red diesel oil, whose price is currently 27,000 LBP, is absent in the market.        

The President of gas station owners, Sami Brax told LBCI that the state’s decision to subsidize the cost of diesel oil is inefficient since the government cannot meet the local markets’ needs by itself. Brax added that the solution lies in increasing the quota for Bekaa and including the green diesel oil to the subsidies.  

Brax explained that, in the wake of the halt of diesel oil smuggling from Syria, the Bekaa needs approximately 2 million liters of diesel oil while only 1 million liters are being provided. 

The President of gas station owners denied that the absence of red diesel oil in market aims at exerting pressure on the government in order to subsidize the cost of green diesel oil.      

Brax accused the importing firms of acting without a prior agreement with the Energy Minister.
