Higher Defense Council: To control borders amid security gap
Higher Defense Council reiterated its refusal of weapons smuggling to and from Lebanon, underlining the need to control the situation along the borders, in addition to the refusal of violations.

Discussions also focused on security situation in the country in general, missions executed by security and military apparatuses and measures taken. Also, the council tackled the latest incidents which occurred along the Lebanese borders which led to the death of three Lebanese citizens.

Sleiman stressed that security, judicial and diplomatic sides are carrying out investigations to take the appropriate measures.

The council discussed south security situation and stressed continuous cooperation with the UNIFIL and their protection. The council asked the concerned apparatuses to combat terrorism, boost civil peace and prevent any attempt to destabilize security.

After discussions the council designated missions among the concerned ministries and apparatuses and gave instructions to continue coordination between military and security apparatuses to exchange information to uncover security destabilize attempts.

It is worth noting that Higher Defense Council convened on Thursday at Baabda Palace at 9:00 am chaired by President Michel Sleiman and in presence of Prime Minister Najib Mikati, in addition to the following ministers: Finance Minister Mohamad Safadi, Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn, Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas, Interior and Municipalities Minister Marwan Charbel and Social Affairs Minister Wael Bou Faour.

Also, top military and security commanders attended the meeting.
