In a press conference held at Beirut International Airport before leaving for Rome, Rai hoped that what happened during the Parliament’s session on Wednesday will not be repeated in the second round.
Following his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh, Rai said that the people empowers the deputies to legislate and elect a president, stressing that such a responsibility must not be used to serve personal interests.
“A president elected by consensus is not necessarily weak,” he stated.
Rai had met with Berri in the presence of bishops Youssef Sayyah and Samir Mazloum, and discussed the current situation and the latest developments.
