Lebanese University’s contractual teachers on strike

The contractual teachers at the Lebanese University announced that they account for 53% of the total number of teachers at the university, and that still, they are the most wronged. There is no social security, salaries are not paid on time; in fact, these contractual teachers are still waiting for their salaries for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The teachers said in a statement issued after a sit-in they held in the courtyard of the Hadath campus Science Faculty on Thursday at noon in support of their claims to become full-timer staff. They said that having a full-time job is a legitimate right and a necessity to fill in the gaps resulting from the fact that more than 100 teachers are retiring each year.

The statement called on the President of the Lebanese University Dr. Adnan Hussain to submit the full-time file to the Education Minister Hassan Diab before 20/1/2012, adding that if this fails to happen, teachers will take harsher measures.
