STL, UNIFIL and Syria at the core of UN chief’s official meetings

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon arrived at Baabda presidential palace to meet with President Michel Sleiman.

Ban had earlier arrived at the Rafik Hariri Beirut International Airport where he was received by Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas, representing PM Najib Mikati, and the acting Secretary General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Wafic Rhaimi.

Ban was accompanied by Terry Roed-Larsen and UNIFIL commander, General Alberto Asarta.

The U.N. chief is set to meet later with Prime Minister Najib Miqati and Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss topics directly related to Lebanon's internal affairs, with particular focus on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).

Ban will also attend a U.N. conference in Beirut on Reform and Transition to Democracy in the Arab World at Phoenicia Hotel at 7:00 p.m.
