Majdalani on Achrafieh tragedy: tenancy laws should be addressed immediately

MP Atef Majdalani commented on Monday on the previous night’s Achrafieh collapse, saying that the issue of old buildings is not new and involves 30% of Beirut’s buildings.

Majdalani called for forming a committee to carry out regular surveys of Beirut’s buildings and to draw up a report in this regard.

Majdalani told LBCI that “everyone is jointly responsible for the incident”, adding that the collapse requires raising the question of tenancy laws in Lebanon, an issue that should be addressed immediately, as he said.

A six-story residential building collapsed on Sunday in Fassouh, Achrafieh. Dozens of injuries and killed have been reported.
