Charbel patronizes conference on engineers' role in municipal work

The municipal affairs commission of the Engineers Syndicate held Friday its first conference on the role of engineers in municipal work, under the patronage of Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, at Habtoor Grand Hotel.

"Local development is at the core of the Syndicate's interests through municipal councils, deemed the cornerstone for administrative decentralization," Minister Charbel said.

"Many citizens believe that any municipality which does not include engineers is doomed to failure," he noted.

On the deadly collapse of Ashrafieh building, Minister Charbel said such disaster could have been shunned, had it not been for the lack of coordination and cooperation between the Engineers Syndicate and the general department of Urbanism.
