Nahhas to LBCI: Mikati’s suspension is for the common good

Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas told Nharkom Said TV show on Sunday that PM Najib Mikati’s decision to suspend cabinet sessions is not out of political bickering; rather it is in Lebanon’s best interest and for the common good.

“The attempts of a certain party to impose consultations prior to the cabinet session is a dangerous approach that can no longer be tolerated since it obstructs the cabinet’s work”, Nahhas said.

Nahhas added that consultation should take place through the vote and not prior to it, stressing that political consultations regarding administrative appointments are not included in legal texts.

“Mikati is responsible for censorship authorities and mechanisms. He has to propose 3 names and he consulted Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi since he is a legal reference”, Nahhas said, underscoring the need to preserve the constitution.

The minister of economy said that Christians in Lebanon are represented officially by the president, adding that the Head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun does not represent all the Lebanese.
