Sources reported to Al-Akhbar newspaper on Thursday that talks featured high on Change and Reform Bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun during the latest dialogue session between the Future Movement and Hezbollah.
The same sources quoted Future Movement officials as saying that “MP Aoun is the strongest among Christian officials in Lebanon since he represents the majority of Christians in the country.”
According to newspaper the Future Movement delegation reiterated the necessity of maintaining good ties with MP Aoun and his movement.
Ministerial sources reported to Al-Akhbar newspaper on Thursday that Prime Minister Tammam Salam will be more firm when chairing the cabinet sessions in order to have shorter sessions, and in a bid to prevent Lebanese factions from hindering the work of the cabinet.
In the same regard, other sources told Al-Mustaqbal newspaper that PM Salam is keen on setting a timeframe that does not exceed 3 hours for each cabinet session, stressing that he is against open-ended sessions.
Education Minister Elias Bou Saab described on Thursday his meeting with the Union Coordinating Committee and Prime Minister Tammam Salam as positive, stressing that the UCC ruled out the possibility of adopting escalatory measures in light of the country’s critical situation.
Minister Bou Saab told Al-Mustaqbal newspaper that members of the UCC delegation reiterated the call on officials to pass the series of ranks and salaries to fortify national and social security in Lebanon.
He also stated that PM Salam praised the positive stance of the UCC, stressing that its demands are righteous and should be met at the right time.
Head of the Kataeb Party Amine Gemayel stated on Thursday that Lebanon’s current priority is the election of a new president, stressing that coping with presidential vacuum is a crime.
In the regard, Gemayel told Al-Joumhouria newspaper that the absence of a president threatens the country and its institutions.
On another note, Gemayel noted that his meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam was inclusive and comprehensive, emphasizing that they discussed dossiers of great concern for the Lebanese people.
He also stated that they tackled article 65 of the Lebanese constitution which specifies the decision-making mechanism adopted by the cabinet.
