Following the meeting, the minister held a press conference where he said that since the prisoners’ transfer to Bloc B, they have not been mistreated.
Addressing the families of the prisoners, the minister stressed that "such mistakes will not be repeated," noting that inmates will be granted all their humanitarian rights.
He pointed out that investigations will continue with the security forces who participated in the beating and torturing of some inmates at Roumieh prison.
In this context, al-Mahnouq rejected any accusation targeting Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi of being involved in this matter.
"Should my resignation help in preventing extremism in Lebanon, I will be ready to resign," al-Mashnouq stated.
Al-Mashnouq’s statement comes after the families of the Islamist prisoners staged sit-ins and blocked roads on Sunday night calling on the interior minister to resign.
