Mikati and Sleiman hail the resumption of cabinet sessions
The cabinet held an ordinary session on Monday at the Baabda presidential palace in the presence of PM Najib Mikati and under the chairmanship of President Michel Sleiman.

The session, which was held after a month-long suspension, discussed 78 items as well as other pressing issues. As the session kicked off, Sleiman highlighted the importance of ministerial solidarity and boosting the productivity of the cabinet. The prime minister also made similar remarks.

“Only through constructive dialogue and discussions will the cabinet be able to settle differences”, Sleiman said, emphasizing the role played by the PM in reactivating the government’s endeavor.

The president voiced hope that priorities enshrined in the cabinet’s political statement will be referred to, such as domestic stability and people’s public affairs.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that the resumption of ministerial sessions is an asset to the state institution and authorities and to all Lebanese without any distinction.

Mikati underscored the need to solve crises and press on with pending issues such as the budget, the public debt, the rationalization of expenditure, the activation of vital sectors, the creation of job opportunities, the increase in growth and the improvement of Lebanon’s competitiveness.

“Administrative appointments are paramount for the government to implement its projects far from nepotism and quotas”, Mikati said.

Following the session, Information Minister Walid Daouk read the session’s decisions and announced that a session will be held in the Grand Serail on Wednesday February 29 at 4 p.m. Sleiman and Mikati held a closed-door meeting ahead of the session to discuss the general situation and latest developments.
