Cabinet convenes with 113 items on agenda

The cabinet is currently holding a plenary session in the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Six ministers, Nicolas Nahahs, Nicolas Sahnawi, Faisal Karami, Marwan Charbel, Marwan Kheireddine and Adnan Mansour did not attend the session.

The session will discuss 62 new items as well as 51 others that were postponed from Monday’s session raising the number of items to a total of 113. The items touch upon economic, administrative, investment, legal and financial issues.

Prior to the session, Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi told reporters that a mechanism should be devised to legalize the $11 billion and the 8.9 trillion LBPs before transferring the documents for verification.

“The Finance Ministry has access to documents verifying the expenditures”, Safadi said, ruling out the possibility of swap.
