Beirut port employees suspend work, threaten to escalate in light of garbage dumping
Employees of Beirut port suspended work on Thursday morning to protest against the possibility of transporting waste to the port.

In this context, the Head of the Employees' Union at the Port of Beirut Beshara Asmar told LBCI that they will "not accept turning the port into a garbage dumping point," calling for dialogue aimed at tackling the removal of the waste that was transported to the facility.

Asmar added that dumping piles of garbage in the port will have negative repercussions on the employees’ health, threatening that the employees intend to escalate and call for an open-ended strike.
