At least 41 were killed and more than 180 injured in a double suicide attack that hit a busy area in the region of Bourj al-Barajneh in Beirut's southern suburb. Moments later, Islamic State released a statement via Twitter, claiming responsibility for the attacks.
In this regard, sources said that two suicide bombers wearing explosive belts were behind the attack, adding that 4 suicide bombers were present at the scene, two of them detonated themselves, one ran away and another one was killed right before detonating himself.
Accordingly, security forces rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area, opening fire in the air to disperse the citizens who gathered at the attack scene.
For his part, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour called on all the hospitals in the region to receive all injured in the blasts and provide them with the necessary treatments at the expense of the Health Ministry.
State’s Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr tasked the military police and the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence Directorate with launching investigations into the attack.
