Legislative session adjourned after March 14 MPs break quorum

The legislative session was adjourned until next Wednesday after March 14 MPs withdrew from the session breaking the quorum.

The parliament discussed during its general session the transportation allowance and the reduction of prison sentences.The session also approved the increase in the Audit Bureau’s personnel and raising the number of judges from 36 to 52 as it also authorized the cabinet to borrow funds in foreign currencies over which the Kataeb MPs and MP Ahmad Fatfat showed reservations.

Speaker Nabih Berri chaired the session in the presence of PM Najib Mikati and 72 MPs.

Finance and Budget Committee head MP Ibrahim Kanaan told LBCI ahead of the session that “the ministry of finance will finish preparing the balance sheets within the next few days and they will then be referred to the Financial Audit Committee and later to the Finance and Budget Committee.”

“There are not two extra-budgetary draft laws in parliament, there is only one draft law presented by the cabinet to authorize spending”, he added.
