Hundreds of Russian opposition protesters rally against Putin

Hundreds rallied in downtown Moscow on Saturday to denounce Vladimir Putin's return to the presidency and a television show that accused opposition leaders of treason.

Two protesters at Pushkin Square who unfurled anti-Kremlin banners were arrested, Moscow police said. Among protesters at Pushkin Square were two prominent opposition leaders.  

The protesters at Pushkin Square cheered opposition leader Sergei Udaltsov, who was released from jail on Friday night after his 10-day jail term for disobeying police orders was replaced with a fine.  

Udaltsov, who leads the Left Front movement and spent several months in jail last year, called on the protesters to participate in the March of A Million - an opposition rally planned for May 6, a day before Putin's presidential inauguration.

Udaltsov told the crowd that "Impostors" should "get out of the Kremlin."  

Another prominent opposition leader, Boris Nemtsov from Parnas (Party of People's Freedom), was also among protesters. Both men addressed the rally, and their speeches were followed by people chanting "Russia without Putin" and "Russia Will Be Free."  

The protesters were released shortly afterwards, police said, and there were no further arrests.
