The head of the Environment parliamentary committee MP Marwan Hamadeh announced Wednesday that "Minister Akram Chehayeb who has been tasked with the waste crisis case stressed that the waste deportation option is not a plan, but a solution in a country that has rejected all rational proposals.”
Hamadeh hoped that the contract will be signed within a few days, noting that “the names of the countries that will receive the garbage will remain a confidential matter.”
During a joint press conference with Minister Chehayeb held following the committee’s meeting, MP Hamadeh called on the cabinet to show solidarity with Minister Chehayeb, adding that their upcoming meeting will be held next Tuesday.
For his part, Minister Chehayeb stated that “the deportation is the hardest choice that can go in line with the wave of rejection that swept through the regions and interests,” stressing that “they are open for every discussion or idea that can lead to sustainable solutions.”
In this context, the minister said that the preparations are ongoing, noting that the company that will be tasked with deporting the garbage has been seriously working on the matter.
