Geagea asserted his commitment to the National Reconciliation Pact that was approved in Al-Taef, stressing the need to strengthen the State’s institutions without ever resorting to an armed solution.
He also called for the support of the Lebanese army, in order to expand the state’s control on all Lebanese ground.
“The Lebanese Forces does not act spontaneously but out of principals that are incarnated with the Cedar Revolution,” he stated.
During a press conference, Geagea highlighted the importance of issuing a new electoral law that guarantees a fair representation and introduces a primary step for re-balancing the state’s institutions.
For his part, Aoun thanked the Lebanese Forces on their support for his nomination for presidency, pointing out that the time has come to leave the past behind and start building the future.
“The “black era” expired and should be burned off,” he said.
Aoun in Maarab in a historical visit
Earlier, Geagea and Aoun had held a closed meeting in a historical and first time visit to Maarab with the attendance of the Lebanese Forces and FPM officials.
Geagea had met with Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, MP Ibrahim Kanaan and LF media official Melhem Riyashi.
