Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai called Thursday for electing “a Lebanese president,” urging “all political and parliamentary blocs to live up to their responsibilities and start off by analyzing local and regional circumstances and choosing an adequate president.”
Commenting on LF chief Samir Geagea’s nomination of MP Michel Aoun for presidency he said: “We supported the consultations of political and parliamentary blocs along with their choice of a president, and Geagea’s nomination for Aoun was a great initiation that satisfied the Lebanese people.”
Speaking ahead of his travel to Vatican, Rai said that they will tackle the presidential elections with the Pope and Vatican officials.
Rai also responded to a question on head of Future Movement Saad Hariri and MP Suleiman Frangieh’s visit to Rome, saying he is not aware of any scheduled meeting in the Vatican.
