LF leader Geagea praises Jumblatt’s stance over Maarab meeting

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea hailed on Thursday the Democratic Gathering for its stance on Monday's Maarab meeting that witnessed the LF chief endorsing Change and Reform bloc head MP Michel Aoun for the presidential elections.

Democratic Gathering leader MP Walid Jumblat has always respected the National Pact, he added.

“We were therefore not surprised with the Democratic Gathering and Progressive Socialist Party's position over the Maarab meeting,” Geagea said.

Earlier today, Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt welcomed the latest rapprochement between the Lebanese Forces party and the Free Patriotic Movement.

Jumblatt’s comments were made following The Democratic Gathering’s meeting at Clemenceau whereby he asserted that he is still holding onto the candidacy of MP Henri Helou.

Lebanon has been without a head of state since the term of former President Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 with rival political blocs still divided over a new leader.
