Bishop Matar calls on politicians to change their agendas

Beirut Maronite Bishop Boulos Matar called on Lebanese politicians to change their agendas and place Lebanon’s interests on top of their priorities, noting that the presidential elections should not be linked to any foreign position.

In his holy sermon delivered on Tuesday during St. Maroun’s day mass at St. Maroun Church in Gemmayzeh, Matar stressed the need to respect the Constitution and the National Pact, adding that the presidential elections represent a crossing point toward other pending issues.

Several officials attended the mass, including MP Abdel Latif al-Zein representing Speaker Nabih Berri, PM Tammam Salam, former Kataeb Party chief Amin Gemayel and his wife Joyce, former President Michel Sleiman and his wife Wafaa, former Speaker Hussein al-Husseini, former PM Fouad Siniora, as well as Ministers Sejaan Azzi, Ramzy Jreij, Boutros Harb, Raymond Araiji, Gebran Bassil and a number of deputies.
