In this regard, Azzi pointed out that the Christians ceased to consider that the Lebanese state is theirs. Instead, they headed towards the private sector or they decided to work abroad.
Azzi urged the Christians to take the initiative to enter the public sector.
Quoting the patriarch, the said minister noted that Rai voiced his concern over the presidential vacuum and the future of Lebanon’s government.
Speaking of the crisis related to Lebanon’s relations with Saudi Arabia, Azzi stated that “if there were a head of state, the crisis wouldn’t have taken place, seemingly since the president is the one who organizes the relations between the constitutional institutions and oversees both defense and foreign policies.”
He added that the cabinet is working to contain the crisis and find a solution to the Saudi step.
Saudi Arabia announced on Friday it is halting deals worth $4 billion aimed at equipping and supporting Lebanese security forces in retaliation for Lebanon’s siding with Iran amid the Sunni kingdom's spat with the Shiite power.
The decision came after Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil declined to support Saudi resolutions against Iran during two meetings of Arab and Muslim foreign ministers.
