REPORT: Kataeb leader MP Gemayel files lawsuit against CDR
Kataeb leader MP Sami Gemayel filed on Wednesday a lawsuit against the Council for Development and Reconstruction for its failure to follow up on the trash management crisis since tasking Sukleen with collecting Lebanon’s waste.

Gemayel’s comments were made as he left the Justice Palace.

He accused Sukleen of abandoning its duties and stealing public money by just burying the trash in landfills without sorting it.

"Where did the money paid for Sukleen's services go?" Gemayel asked.

The government signed a contract with Sukleen in 1994 for collecting the trash in Beirut and Mount Lebanon. The contract has been prolonged several times for lack of any alternative.

The trash management crisis erupted last July after the closure of the Naameh landfill that receives the waste of the capital and Mount Lebanon.
